Wheel Alignment – Milton Keynes

Wheel alignment adjusts the angles of your wheels, so they point in exactly the direction the manufacturer intended, both relative to each other and to the road. At Bridge Autocare, we use Snap-on laser equipment to measure and adjust all four wheels on cars and vans.

Signs your wheels are out of alignment

  • Misalignment often develops gradually, so it’s easy to miss until your tyres start wearing out. Look out for:
  • The car pulling to one side on a straight, level road
  • A steering wheel that sits off-centre when you’re driving straight ahead
  • Tyres wearing faster on the inside or outside edge
  • Tyres squealing when you turn at low speed
  • Steering that feels vague, heavy, or slow to return to centre

If you’ve noticed any of these, it’s worth booking a check before uneven wear shortens the life of a set of tyres.

What knocks wheels out of line

Even a single hard impact can be enough to shift the alignment, and the most common causes we see around Milton Keynes are potholes, clipping a kerb, and taking speed bumps too quickly. Worn steering and suspension parts, such as track rod ends and bushes, can also allow the angles to drift over time. Wheel alignment should also be checked after any steering or suspension work.

The main angles we measure are:

  • Toe, which is whether the wheels point slightly inwards or outwards when viewed from above. This is the most common adjustment and has the biggest effect on tyre wear.
  • Camber, the inward or outward tilt of the wheel when viewed from the front.
  • Caster, the angle of the steering axis, which affects straight-line stability and how the steering self-centres.

Not every angle is adjustable on every vehicle, and we’ll tell you what can be corrected on yours.

What happens during your alignment

  • We check your tyres and inspect the steering and suspension for worn parts, because adjusting the alignment on worn components won’t hold.
  • Laser sensors are fitted to each wheel to take precise readings.
  • These readings are compared with your vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Our technician adjusts the angles back within range.
  • We take final readings and can show you the before-and-after figures.

If we find a worn part that needs replacing first, we’ll explain why and give you a price before doing anything. Any repairs that we do, we use OEM parts and carry our 12-month labour guarantee.
